Videoconferencing at MSU
Videoconference systems have been available at Michigan State University since 1991, and today many units and departments have incorporated independent systems on campus. Users have a variety of considerations to review when planning a videoconference event.
What is videoconferencing?
Videoconferencing makes use of video and audio technologies to provide real time interaction between participants in different locations.
The technology uses the Internet or phone lines to send digital signals to any location in the world that contains the appropriate equipment. Recent advances in technology, combined with decreasing costs for equipment, offers users a variety of options to connect to other sites.
MSU Testimonial
Full service production classroom model of videoconferencing:
"The School of Social Work’s Blended Statewide Clinical MSW Program relies on videoconferencing to 'blend' its courses—using a combination of face-to-face via interactive video with online course content via ANGEL. As a result, we have created access to our MSW program for individuals in Michigan and Wisconsin who otherwise would not have the opportunity to pursue an advanced degree."
- Sally Rypkema, coordinator for Blended Statewide Clinical MSW Program, and Clinical Associate Professor
