SUMMARY:Brown Bag: Groups in D2L: Creating ad-hoc D2L Groups During Class\, Submitting Photos of Group Work\, and Grading Groups using Rubrics
DESCRIPTION:Speakers\n\nJon Stoltzfus\, College of Natural Science\nTerri McElhinny\, College of Natural Science\n\nWe leverage D2L features to facilitate group work in large-enrollment lecture courses.  D2L’s grouping\, dropbox\, and rubric features simplify the logistical challenges inherent with collecting and evaluating work from hundreds of students. These features allow informal groups that are formed at the start of a class meeting to work cooperatively during class and upload their final product\, whether it by text and/or drawings\, to D2L at the end of class.  Following class\, members of the instructional team can evaluate the group’s work\, assign a grade\, and provide the group with feedback. Each member of the student group has access to the group’s work and the feedback through D2L.  We find that this paperless system provides an efficient method for managing group work with large numbers of students and we will present how we use this system. \nThis session will be of interest to all who would like to learn how to use the group and rubric features of D2L.  It will also be of interest to all who want to incorporate ad hoc groups in their classes\, along with ideas as to how to use rubrics with group tasks. \nEveryone is invited to attend. \nBackground\nThe Explorations in Instructional Technology Brown Bag series is hosted by the MSU College of Education\, College of Natural Science\, and MSU IT Teaching and Learning Technology.
