Analytics & Data Solutions

Analytics and Data Solutions (ADS) (formerly Enterprise Information Stewardship) reports to MSU IT and the Office of Planning and Budgets. ADS is comprised of Data Warehouse/Data Integration, Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytics, Data Stewardship, and Data Solutions teams.

ADS plans and organizes activities for MSU’s vision of data managed as an asset, and data-driven decision-making. ADS improves links between silo-ed databases and data stores. The teams make information/data easier to find on-line, supporting analysts and policy makers ability to quickly access and transform data into new formats and knowledge. Part of these strategic responsibilities will extend to evaluating the usage of emerging technologies and implementing those solutions that give academic and administrative units the capabilities they need to succeed in analytics.

Acts as a data strategist, steward for improving data quality, evangelist for data sharing, and technologist of new data products. Organizes and implements policies, procedures, structures, roles and responsibilities that outline and enforce rules of engagement, decision rights, and the accountabilities for the effective management of information assets. Determines institution’s current data quality/maturity level and establish enterprise standards including a uniform and repeatable system development life cycle methodology for data quality and cleanliness.

Data Stewardship

Data Stewardship actively manages the university’s data to function as a valued institutional data asset.  Achieving the team’s objectives of reliable, useful and secure data of high quality involve the integration of data management principles and best practices into the data life cycle – from creation and collection to archiving and destruction of data..

Data Warehouse/Data Integration

The Data Warehouse/Data Integration team provides solutions to meet the university’s need for data. This includes providing technology and services used in the transporting of data and by providing a central data repository.

Business Intelligence & Analytics

The Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) team provides technology and services to promote proactive, data-driven decision making.  This includes providing enterprise reporting, analytic and visualization tools as well as predictive analytics and data science services.

Data Solutions

The Data Solutions team provides solutions to meet the university’s need for data within the SQL Server environment.
