Spartan 365 is a suite of Office 365 software hosted by Microsoft that can be accessed anywhere on multiple devices. Spartan Mail offers more robust features, an improved web interface, and better access on a range of devices.
The initial deployment of Spartan 365 at MSU includes Spartan Mail with a no-cost download to Office Pro Plus to undergraduate students.
Future deployments of other Spartan 365 products will likely include Spartan Skype for Business and Spartan Drive. Details regarding these products will be provided when they become available.
Individuals will keep their current email address through Spartan Mail: NetID@msu.edu (e.g., email@example.com where “sparty” is the MSU NetID).
Spartan Mail provides the following advantages over MSU’s legacy system:
- Allowable attachment size of 25MB
- Seamless access to services on desktop, laptop, and mobile devices
- Improved web interface
Spartan Mail will be provided at no charge to MSU affiliated users as the migration proceeds.
This service is supported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with regularly scheduled maintenance periods.
No more than 30 minutes of unplanned downtime per month, or an uptime percentage of 99.93%.
Service requests are acknowledged within 48 business hours. When a request is made, an expected fulfillment date is provided and sent to the individual requesting the service.
Microsoft’s Enterprise Agreement for Office 365 licensing provides compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This means student and health information are protected and onshore data storage is ensured.
As part of MSU’s Office 365 agreement, Microsoft also won’t mine individual data and will only access that data for troubleshooting needs or malware prevention. Customer data belongs to individuals and they can export their data at any time.
