This presentation will address the major themes and overarching context in which academic IT organizations now find themselves. In particular Lev Gonick will explain why he believes the structure and culture of legacy environments are no longer adequate to meet the needs of declining public support, increased competitiveness, and growth of demand due to new services, and the consumerization of IT.

Dr. Stephen Hsu will dive into how technology should be evaluated before being implemented in higher education institutions. Stephen Hsu serves Michigan State University as the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies. Before joining MSU in 2012, Stephen Hsu was director of the Institute for Theoretical Science and professor of physics at the University of Oregon. He also serves as scientific adviser to BGI (formerly Beijing Genomics Institute) and as a member of its Cognitive Genomics Lab.
