Data management is a process that includes collecting, processing, storing, and accessing data to ensure accessibility, completeness, correctness, and integrity during the scientific life cycle.
Data management is offered by the Center for Statistical Training and Consulting (CSTAT), the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), ITS Analytics & Data Solutions, and MSU Libraries.
Data Management Features
- Assist in developing a data management plan
- Assist in developing a database or data collection instruments
- Provide data storage solutions, including Data Warehouse, NoSQL databases, binary file storage
- Provide custom methods for accessing data
- Provide data quality checks or assist in developing workflows for such
- Assist in creating meta data and reporting on content or features
- Provide data queries, merging of data, and preparation of data for analysis
- Collaborate on contracts and grants
CENTER FOR STATISTICAL TRAINING AND CONSULTING (CSTAT)
FEATURES
- Assist in developing a data management plan, developing database, data dictionary and metadata, or data collection instruments
- Data quality checks, data cleaning, examining data properties, and reporting to inform researchers and augment metadata
- Preparing data for analysis
- Staffing a research team with a data manager, statistician, and/or research assistant

CHARGES
- Projects may be subsidized by college or unit-level sponsorship agreements
- Hourly and FTE percentage rates may be available depending on scope of project

CLINICAL AND TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCES INSTITUTE (CTSI)

- Role based access to data entry and extraction including de-identified data exports
- Metadata can be exported and copied for easy transfer or duplication of projects
- Email/SMS/Phone notifications when data entered satisfy a logical statement
- Electronic consent for human subjects research
PRE-REQUISITES
- Complete a project meeting and agree to a written Explanation of Services
CHARGES
- Usage fee of ~$1400 annually
- Data managers available at hourly rate or percent effort if greater than 100 hours
