MSU no longer supports Oracle Java Runtime as part of an effort to bolster security and promote standardization across all units.
Oracle has changed their licensing model for Java Runtime. MSU will not be participating in this new enterprise model. Unit and college IT administrators should evaluate their use of Oracle Java Runtime and stop using the software as soon as possible. Individual installations of Oracle Java should not be installed on university devices, as MSU no longer supports licenses for Oracle Java SE Desktop or Server.
Alternatives to Oracle Java Runtime
Consider if one of the following no-cost, open-source options might be an alternative to Oracle Java Runtime:
- Windows: Microsoft OpenJDK
- Linux/Red Hat: Red Hat-provided JDK
- Mac: Microsoft OpenJDK
