Copilot
Microsoft Copilot, a versatile AI assistant for tasks like coding, writing, generating images, and answering general questions, has been available since September 2024 at no additional cost to students, faculty, and staff under MSU’s enterprise license agreement with Microsoft. Copilot leverages a combination of AI models, including OpenAI’s GPT-4 and DALL-E 3, and ensures enterprise-level data protection. By accessing Copilot with your MSU credentials, any data entered remains secure and will not be used to train the AI model.

Microsoft 365 Copilot integrates the power of Copilot into Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to help with tasks like writing documents, analyzing data, and creating presentations. AI guidance
As we encourage the innovative use of new technology across various disciplines, it is equally vital to address potential risks and concerns. MSU IT has collaborated with the MSU Ethics Institute in the Office of the Provost and other campus stakeholders to establish Guidance on Data Uses and Risks of Generative Artificial Intelligence.While all MSU community members must always adhere to MSU’s established acceptable use and institutional data policies, specific types of data should be handled in different ways when using a generative AI product.
