Service Offering-Current MSU Students
Spartan 365 email and Microsoft Teams are provided to admitted students to allow them to communicate with the university as they are considering enrollment. This software is removed if the student fails to attend MSU.
Current Michigan State University students are provided Spartan 365 email and related Office 365 software with OneDrive, including Microsoft Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). More detailed information on the Office 365 service is provided in the MSU TeamDynamix Knowledge Base.
Once students leave the university without graduating or graduating with a degree, the MSU licensing for Office 365 software with OneDrive, including Microsoft Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), will persist for approximately 30 days before expiring. During this time, students should migrate any data that is needed to other sources. Any student who attended MSU, graduated with a degree, and had an Office 365 account is allowed to retain access to their Spartan 365 (@msu.edu) email account.**
Service Offering-MSU Faculty and Staff
Spartan 365 email and related Office 365 software with OneDrive, including Microsoft Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), is provided to current faculty and staff while employed by the university.
Once an individual leaves the university or officially retires from the university, they will lose access to Office 365 software with OneDrive, including Office desktop applications. Before individuals leave the university, they should migrate any data needed to other sources. For more information, see the help articles located in the sidebar.
Any individual who officially retires (according to HR) from the university or has emeritus status is allowed to retain access to their Spartan 365 email (@msu.edu) account. Any other individuals will lose access to their email account.
Service Offering — Retirees
Any individual who officially retires (according to HR) from the university is allowed to retain access to their Spartan 365 email (@msu.edu) account. They will, however, lose access to online Office 365 software with OneDrive, and Office desktop applications. Before individuals leave the university, they should migrate any data needed to other sources. For more information, see the help articles located in the sidebar.
If a retiree is still doing work on behalf of the university, their department may purchase Microsoft Office desktop applications for them from the MSU Tech Store.
Service Offering — Emeriti
Any individual who has emeritus status (according to HR) is allowed to retain access to their Spartan 365 email (@msu.edu) account and online online Office 365 software with OneDrive. They do not, however, have access to Microsoft Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. For more information, see the help articles located in the sidebar.
If an emeritus is still doing work on behalf of the university, their department may purchase Microsoft desktop Office applications for them from the MSU Tech Store.
Service Offering-Temps and On Calls
Spartan 365 email and related Office 365 with OneDrive online applications, are automatically provided to current Temps and On Call staff. *Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Outlook) are not provided.
If desired, departments can purchase Office desktop application for Temps and On Calls through the Tech Store.
Once a Temp or On-Call staff person is no longer performing work for the university, they will lose access to email and office online applications with OneDrive and, if purchased by the department, their Office desktop applications.

*On-call staff with the following job titles will receive access to Microsoft Office application downloads: Clerical Aide, Professional Aide, Technical Aide, Consultant, and Extension Program Worker.
Service Offering-Adjunct (No Pay Academics)
Spartan 365 email and related Office 365 online applications, including OneDrive, are automatically provided to current Adjunct (No Pay Academics) employees while their status is current. Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Outlook) are not provided.
If desired, departments can purchase Office desktop applications for Adjunct Academic employees through the Tech Store.
Once an adjunct is no longer current, they will lose access to email, Office online applications, and, if purchased by the department, their Office desktop applications.

Service Offering-Affiliates
If a current Affiliate is performing work for MSU, the department can submit a request to the ID office for the Affiliate to obtain access to Spartan 365 email OR Spartan 365 email and related Office 365 online applications, including Teams and OneDrive for an MSU business reason. Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Outlook) are not provided.
If desired, departments can purchase Office desktop applications for Affiliates through the Tech Store.
Once a person is no longer an Affiliate, they will lose access to email, Office online applications, and, if purchased by the department, their Office desktop applications.

Office 365 Support
Supported clients for email
- Microsoft Outlook configured with an active sync connection is the recommended client for accessing Spartan 365 email on computers at Michigan State University.
- Support for Spartan 365 email is also provided for Mac Mail, and Windows Mail clients on computers if accessed through an active sync connection.
- Other clients, including ones that use other technologies like POP or IMAP are not recommended or supported. These email clients may work if they support “modern authentication,” but no support is provided if you attempt to use them. It should also be noted that these other clients could become incompatible and stop functioning at any time in the future.

**Note: The terms of these service offerings are subject to change. Termination of services will be preceded by a 30-day notice whenever possible.
