Student Systems

The Student Systems team provides strategic development, guidance, and support for student systems at MSU.

MSU Student Information System (SIS)

The MSU Student Information System (SIS) team develops and provides support for application software to allow secure information exchanges between faculty, staff, researchers, and students.

The Health Information Systems (Health SIS) team develops and provides support for web-based application software to allow secure information exchanges between health care providers and clients.

Business Intelligence (BI) & Analytics

The Business Intelligence & Analytics team provides technology and services to promote proactive, data-driven decision making. This includes providing enterprise reporting, analytic and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI and IBM Cognos.

Data Architecture

The Data Architect is responsible for creating an end-to-end vision and strategy for how data will flow through the organization. This is achieved by working with multiple IT teams and Business Intelligence (BI) teams to set standards that define the type of data collected and how it is used, stored, managed, and integrated within the enterprise. Data Architecture is one of several domains that form the pillars of an enterprise architecture.

Data Stewardship

The Data Stewardship team manages the university’s data as an institutional asset. Their objective is to provide reliable, useful, and secure data of high quality. This is achieved through the integration of data management principles and best practices into the data life cycle – from creation and collection to archiving and destruction.

Data Science/Predictive Analytics

The Data Science team provides statistical and predictive analytics capabilities at the enterprise level to support effective decisions. This team helps campus units and researchers leverage data for predictive decisions. This includes management and development of tools that increase data science capabilities for the institution.

Data Warehouse

The Data Warehouse team provides technology and services used in transporting data and a central data repository. The Enterprise Data Warehouse houses the various data hubs such as the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).

Spatial Data Management (GIS)

The Spatial Data Management team is responsible for the broad spectrum of location-based data services that enable innovative applications that improve the efficacy of managing MSU campus. Spatial Data Management uses the Geographic Information System (GIS) to help MSU units understand, interpret, and visualize our world in ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts. Examples include way finding; mapping and navigation; physical campus management including buildings, landscapes, and facilities management; road and parking analysis; and research. This includes tools like ESRI, Oracle Spatial, Open Spatial and more.

Identity & Access Management

Various teams support access management and identity management initiatives for the university.

Access Management

The Access Management team provides access and checks authorization for individuals to types of institutional data and systems.

Identity Management

The Identity Management team works with authentication systems and integrations.

ID Office

Identity management activities are also handled through the MSU ID Office, including the MSU Spartan ID Card and MSU NetID provisioning. Additionally, the ID Office sells student bus passes, sells employee and off-campus meal plans, and resets accounts when needed.

Active Directory

The Active Directory team supports authentication initiatives including Campus Exchange and CampusAD.

Application Architects focus on designing application interfaces and software services to maximize efficiency based on MSU IT processes and governance standards.

The Middleware Systems team provides integration support between application developers and the university’s central IT infrastructure.

SAP BASIS

The SAP BASIS team develops and provides support for MSU-wide software applications that manage, collect, and integrate data across departments.

Oracle

The Oracle team develops and provides support for Oracle databases that store and retrieve data across departments.

Microsoft SQL

The Microsoft SQL (MS SQL) team develops and provides support for MS SQL Server databases that store and retrieve data across departments.

UC4

The UC4 team develops and provides support for UC4 Software that processes and optimizes applications over the application life cycle.

Cognos

The Cognos team provides support for Cognos software that provides tools for data processing, reporting, monitoring, and analysis.

Application Engineer

The Application Engineer team develops and supports applications to help the MSU community run effectively.

Web Hosting

The Web Hosting team provides backend support and hosting for websites at MSU.

JBoss

The JBoss team supports the JBoss platform used by Java-based applications.

Testing

The Testing team supported the Middleware teams by testing applications and technologies before launching them into the production environment.

Application Performance Management (APM)

The Application Performance Management (APM) team monitors and manages the performance and availability of software applications.

Business Analysis

The Business Analysis team reviews and helps develop applications.

Platforms & Integration

The Platforms and Integration team helps automate business processes and manage administrative information for MSU units by providing solution design, development, implementation, and system support.

Platform and Integration also consults on vendor selection and implementation for MSU departments and units.

Solution Engineer

The Solution Engineer team reviews technology-focused tools and processes to ensure that MSU’s technology needs are fulfilled.

Product Administration

The Product Administration team investigates, selects, and drives the development of technology products for MSU.

MySoft

The MySoft team supports the MySoft application for MSU faculty, staff, researchers, and students.

MuleSoft AWS

The MuleSoft Amazon Web Services (AWS) team supports the the MuleSoft AWS network which allows APIs to connect applications, data, and devices.

Residential Hospitality Services

The Residential Hospitality Services team supports the residential properties on MSU campuses.
