The Academic Technology team at MSU IT has put together some webinars for faculty during October, November, and December this semester intended to help educators support their students and enrich their remote learning environments.
October Sessions
October’s webinars will focus on Zoom training. This two-part workshop series will cover everything you need to know to successfully set up and use Zoom meetings following pedagogical best practices and MSU security and privacy policies. The webinars, presented from the meeting host’s perspective, will highlight the best way to apply features and settings in an instructional environment.

November Sessions
November sessions will focus on media creation and distribution. Session one will feature Kaltura Mediaspace and Capture. In this webinar, you will learn how to make recordings at home for your students using these two tools. Session two will go in-depth with multiple creative software programs such as Camtasia, Audacity, and Adobe Spark.

The first webinar in December will cover the basic features of D2L and provide you with an overview of the D2L interface, how to create and manage the grade book, how to create a discussion forum, and how to add your assignments, quizzes, and course content. The second D2L webinar will walk you through more advanced features found in D2L like badges, awards, and rubrics.

This training will go into the details of how-to setup and use a D2L points-based or weighted gradebook. Specifically, participants will learn how to:
- Create Categories and Grade Items.
- Distribute weights within a category and drop the lowest score.
- Create bonus items and work with extra credit.
- Enter grades and feedback.
- Connect and assess activities.
- Preview and release grades.
- Switch to adjusted final grades.

Meet your facilitators:
Nick Noel: Nick is an Instructional Technologist with MSU IT’s Instructional Technology and Development Team. He focuses on gameful learning, Media production, and course design. He is interested in humanizing the learning experience and creating opportunities for student agency.
Natalie Vandepol: Natalie is a Curriculum Development Specialist with MSU IT’s Instructional Technology and Development Team. She focuses on creating and leveraging educational resources and technology to empower educators and students.
Chris Minter: Chris is a Curriculum Designer with MSU IT’s Instructional and Development Team. Guided by his background as a design-based researcher, he focuses on crafting meaningful learning environments specifically designed around the unique needs, lived experiences, and values that underpin the real-world contexts in which educators and students are immersed.
Alyssa Bradley: Alyssa is the Media Production Specialist on MSU’s DigitalX team, where her team collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to create video content for MSU events and curriculum. In addition to consulting with clients, producing video, and managing projects, she also provides training to community members who want to learn more about creating their video content.
Cierra Presberry: Cierra works with MSU IT’s Instructional Technology and Development team as a Curriculum Development Specialist. She focuses on issues of equity within online learning and ways to humanize remote instruction.
Chiwimbo Mwika (Chichi): Chichi is part of the MSU IT’s Instructional Technology and Development Team, working as a Curriculum Development Specialist. Chichi’s focus is on offering tailored curriculum support to educators by using instructional design principles and technology for enhanced learning.
Susan Halick: Susan is an Instructional Designer with more than 20 years of experience assisting faculty with educational technology and course design needs. She is an experienced online and classroom educator, online course developer, and course management system expert (currently D2L).
Rashad Muhammad: Rashad is a Learning Experience Designer with the Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology. He has 20 years of experience in instructional design, course development, and providing software application training.
Kevin Henley: Kevin is an Instructional Designer and Accessibility Specialist with the MSU IT Digital Experience Team. With over 20 years working in IT and educational technologies at MSU, he focuses on creating equitable learning environments through human–centered design and accessible technologies.
