New look to the Microsoft 365 login experience

On Sunday, January 23 the appearance of the login screen is changing for Microsoft (Spartan) 365 applications, including OneDrive, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote.

As previously communicated, MSU IT is making improvements to the existing login experience (also known as single sign-on) to improve usability and enhance security.

While no action is required, we wanted to make you aware of this change.

What do you need to do?

  • No action is required at this time, but you may be prompted to log into your Microsoft 365 applications again after January 23
  • If your password has expired, please log in to auth.msu.edu now to ensure that you will be able to access Spartan Mail on January 23
    • If expired, you will be prompted to update your password when logging in
    • If you can access this now, you do not need to update your password

Why is this change occurring?

  • These improvements offer benefits to you, the community, and our network, including:
    • Less time spent logging in
    • More consistent user login experience across multiple applications
    • Ability to reset your own password
    • Enhanced security
  • This new look to the login screen has already been implemented for other applications such as MSU People Search, MSU Mobile App, EBS, and Campus VPN
