Michigan State University students, faculty and staff who utilize Microsoft Stream for hosting video content will have likely found a new experience when logging in. Microsoft made the move from what they refer to as Stream Classic to their new platform, Stream on SharePoint in 2022, making it universally available to users this spring.
What does this mean for MSU Stream users?
Starting June 24, no new video content can be uploaded to Stream Classic. Instead, users will upload videos on SharePoint or OneDrive and provide permissions to view the videos with students, colleagues, or other members of the university in the same manner as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents are currently shared.
This Microsoft support document breaks down the difference between the old and new versions of Stream, including tips for use.
MSU IT is currently working on a plan to migrate existing content hosted on Microsoft Stream Classic to SharePoint or OneDrive, depending on user preference. Individuals with content stored on Stream Classic will receive communications this summer regarding the migration plans.
In the meantime, users are encouraged to explore Microsoft Stream on SharePoint to familiarize themselves with the new platform. Access Stream by logging into Spartan365.
