To foster collaboration and advance MSU IT’s support of our institution’s AI maturity, MSU IT has launched a dedicated webpage at tech.msu.edu/ai. This page consolidates resources, updates, and guidance on utilizing AI tools to support Spartan success and will continue to grow over time.
Microsoft Copilot, a generative AI-powered assistant designed to enhance productivity, has been available to the MSU community since September 2024. Copilot can help users with summarizing documents, generating text, suggesting edits, answering questions, creating images, and more. Copilot leverages a combination of AI models, including OpenAI’s GPT-4 and DALL-E 3. Unlike other free AI tools, MSU’s enterprise access to Copilot ensures enterprise data protection.
Access Microsoft Copilot
- Access Copilot by logging into copilot.microsoft.com with your MSUnet ID or open the Copilot app from Office 365.
- Use your MSU credentials to ensure security and privacy protections are enabled. Using personal credentials will only grant access to the public version, which does not offer enhanced data privacy features of MSU’s enterprise version.
- Licenses for Microsoft Copilot 365, which integrates the power of Copilot directly with Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams, are also now available for purchase from the MSU Tech Store.
Additional AI assistants
- MSU IT is also in the process of implementing Google Gemini and ChatGPT to make available to the Spartan community.
- Stay updated with the latest information about these tools at tech.msu.edu/ai.
AI guidance
- Review the university’s latest Interim Guidance on Data Uses and Risks of Generative Artificial Intelligence for the complete list of data types allowed to be used with Copilot and other AI tools.
