Incidents like these can lead to an increase in phishing and scam activities targeting students, faculty, and staff. This is a good time to review safe cybersecurity practices.
We encourage all members of the MSU community to keep the following best practices in mind:
- Be alert for signs of phishing, including unexpected emails, texts, calls, suspicious links, or requests for sensitive information.
New and existing AI assistants to support teaching, learning, and work can be found on tech.msu.edu/ai. You’ll also find important guidance on the appropriate use of these tools below.Â
Google Gemini & NotebookLMÂ- Google Gemini and NotebookLM are now available at no cost to all students, faculty, and staff with an MSU Google account.
MSU IT welcomed Laura Clark as assistant chief information officer on Monday, January 12, 2026.Â
Laura comes to MSU from the State of Michigan, where she served as chief information officer (CIO). In that role, she oversaw operations for the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB), which provides information technology, business, and administrative services to state employees and stakeholders, as well as Michigan residents, visitors, and businesses. MSU no longer supports Oracle Java Runtime as part of an effort to bolster security and promote standardization across all units.
Oracle has changed their licensing model for Java Runtime. MSU will not be participating in this new enterprise model. Unit and college IT administrators should evaluate their use of Oracle Java Runtime and stop using the software as soon as possible. Read Full Article →
