Standard Maintenance Windows

MSU IT will perform scheduled maintenance during standard maintenance windows.

Academic Services

Minor maintenance for academic services (e.g., Student Information Systems) can occur from 11:00 p.m. Friday through 6:00 a.m. Monday. Major or significant maintenance for these services can occur Saturday from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m Sunday.

Business Systems

Minor maintenance for business systems (e.g., MSU Email) can occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Major or significant maintenance can occur from 7:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

Academic minor change window is Friday 11 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m. Academic major or significant change window is 10 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. Minor business maintenance window is 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. Major or significant change business change window is 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday.

Incident Response

Incidents are prioritized based on the level of impact to the MSU community and according to critical impact, major impact, minor impact, and small impact.

Critical Impact

Critical impact happens when multiple locations, more than 250 individuals (as in an outage across campus), or instructional/academic services are adversely affected. Critical incidents are responded to within two hours.

Major Impact

Major impact happens when a single location or 10 to 250 individuals are adversely affected or when services across campus are available but with degraded performance or limited functionality. Major incidents are responded to within 24 hours.

Minor Impact

Minor impact happens when a single location or two to 10 individuals are adversely affected or when test services are not available. Minor incidents are responded to within three days.

Small Impact

Small impact happens when one individual is adversely affected or a system or service is not available outside of normal operating hours. Small incidents are responded to within seven days.
