Free courses available from the MSU IT Training Team

The new year is here, and the MSU IT Training Team is offering no-cost virtual instructor-led trainings (VILT) to help serve our campus community. These training opportunities are great ways for all students, faculty, and staff to become more familiar with the technology available at MSU.  

Below, you will find the name of every VILT course available currently. Please visit the Spartans Learn website for more information, including more in-depth course descriptions, course dates, and how to register. 

 

OneDrive – Getting Started 

Level: Beginner 

Duration: 2 hours 

Access, share, and collaborate on all your files from anywhere with Microsoft OneDrive. Learn the essential functions of OneDrive and how you can store data in the Cloud synchronously across other Microsoft applications. There will be live demonstrations and an opportunity for a Q&A session with our trainers.  

 

OneDrive – Working with OneDrive (New for 2022) 

Level: Intermediate  

Duration: 2 hours 

A follow up to the OneDrive – Getting Started course, this course aims to help you work smarter and faster by utilizing some of the advanced features OneDrive has to offer. Learn about file recovery and restoration, file management, the desktop app settings, and the limitations of OneDrive to understand the differences in Cloud storage between OneDrive and SharePoint.  

 

OneNote – Getting Started 

Level: Beginner 

Duration: 2 hours 

Learn the basics of OneNote, a digital note-taking app that provides a single place for keeping all your notes, research, plans, and information. OneNote gives you the ability to take comprehensive notes and collaborate in real time with others. Our trainers will offer live demonstrations and answer your questions. 

 

OneNote – Special Notebooks (New for 2022) 

Level: Intermediate 

Duration: 2 hours 

We are expanding upon our OneNote – Getting Started course and jumping into special notebooks. This course will explore the special notebooks of the Staff, Student, and PLC OneNote notebooks. Talk to our trainers during this course and learn how to work with these special notebooks, share notebooks for collaboration, and access your notebooks from any device. 

 

Spartan 365 Overview 

Level: Beginner 

Duration: 2 hours 

Spartan 365 (aka Microsoft 365) brings together best-in-class Office apps with powerful Cloud services, device management, and advanced security. Join us for an overview of Spartan 365 and the available apps it offers including Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams. 

 

Teams – Getting Started 

Level: Beginner 

Duration: 2 hours 

Microsoft Teams is the perfect tool for communication when working in groups. Learn how you can make the most of this app to chat with individuals, groups, and entire teams, schedule and join meetings and initiate calls, and effectively create, utilize, and organize Channels. Participants will learn the basics of this collaborative workspace. 

 

Teams – Managing Teams and Settings (New for 2022) 

Level: Intermediate 

Duration: 2 hours 

Join us to explore strategies and best practices in Microsoft Teams to create effective, virtual workspaces for projects and workgroups. Discover how to set statuses, explore many of the notification and personalization settings and learn how to manage your team by adding roles, setting permissions, and reviewing analytics.  

 

Teams – SharePoint Site (New for 2022) 

Level: Intermediate 

Duration: 2 hours 

Join us to understand the purpose of the Teams SharePoint Site and discover how to streamline your project and workgroup collaboration. Learn how to upload, share, and sync documents, add and edit site pages, and create lists. 

 

Zoom Meetings – Getting Started 

Level: Beginner 

Duration: 1 hour 

MSU uses Zoom as one of its conferencing and collaboration tools. We’ll cover the basics of Zoom Meetings and what faculty, staff, and students need to know within the first 30 days of being at MSU. Our trainers will help you explore how Zoom seamlessly brings together remote teams for effective teaching, learning and collaboration. 

 

Zoom Meetings – Intermediate Level (New for 2022) 

Level: Intermediate 

Duration: 2 hours 

This course builds on the foundation of Zoom Meetings – Getting Started by covering more advanced topics and functions in Zoom Meetings, such as breakout rooms, recordings, and reports. Learn the tools that will help you create virtual experiences that participants will love.
