Removing Barriers to Learning: Improve D2L Course Usability and Accessibility with Ally Online

D2L Brightspace is a powerful learning management system; however, the wide range of content types and user activities can produce accessibility roadblocks for some users. We’ll cover how to identify and remediate accessibility issues associated with your course content using Ally, an automated accessibility tool integrated into D2L. We will also demonstrate other accessibility features included with D2L and discuss overall best practices for improving course usability and accessibility.

D2L Brightspace Content Templates for Consistent Course Design

This session introduces accessible and responsive D2L course templates by MSU IT, enabling users to create engaging content pages without HTML knowledge. Participants will learn how to apply these templates to develop module introductions, text, images, video lectures, and interactive elements like accordions, tabs, flip cards, and various question types.

Creating and Sharing Instructional Videos with Kaltura Capture and MediaSpace

Looking for an engaging and interactive way to share assessments and course content? Kaltura MediaSpace may be the solution you’re looking for. Learn how to create and share instructional videos and video quizzes for your courses with Kaltura MediaSpace, MSU’s video-hosting platform. Integrating videos and low-stakes quizzes can help students stay engaged in the course and enhance their retention of content. Topics covered will include recording and uploading videos, generating and purchasing captions, editing videos and video details, creating video quizzes and hotspots, and adding videos to D2L Brightspace courses.

Grading in D2L Brightspace

5-Minute Ed Tech Tips

For 5-minute D2L Brightspace and ed tech tool tips, visit the Instructional Technology and Development MediaSpace channel. Topics include learning about impersonating the demo student, uploading grades, and using grade schemes to save time and efficiently manage courses. Throughout the year, MSU IT will release more videos about incorporating educational technology tools into your courses.
