Incident impacted msu.edu and select other websites
On Thursday, October 29, 2015, at 7:20 a.m. an incident was detected that impacted access to the MSU home page and select other university websites.
D2L was restored at 8:15 a.m. The other affected sites were restored at 9:17 a.m.
Affected websites included:
- msu.edu
- d2l.msu.edu
- search.msu.edu
- maps.msu.edu
- servicestatus.msu.edu
- MSU Keywords System

MSU ANGEL retired on May 15; D2L support available
MSU ANGEL was retired on May 15. MSU is moving to Desire2Learn as its main centrally supported learning management system.
Course graded activities and grading data will be accessible on ANGEL in a read-only format for two years after the retirement to provide information in case course grades are contested.

MSU community should save, migrate ANGEL data before May 15
ANGEL will be retired on May 15, as MSU moves to Desire2Learn for its centrally supported learning management system.
Please move from ANGEL any course, dev course, and group information that you want to save before May 15.

MSU plans final shutdown of ANGEL on January 29
MSU IT has moved up the planned final shutdown of ANGEL to Friday, January 29, to ensure data security on this legacy system. ANGEL course and group administrators have been contacted regarding this change. The system will be permanently decommissioned at that time.
Course graded activities and grading data will still be able to be retrieved in the case of grade disputes by making a request to the MSU IT Service Desk. Read Full Article →
Check out D2L training and support options before ANGEL retirement
ANGEL will be retired on May 15, 2015, as MSU moves to Desire2Learn for its centrally supported learning management system. Many resources are available to support instructors and staff as they transition courses and groups to the D2L.
For a timely conversion, IT Services recommends any course materials and groups are converted from ANGEL to D2L prior to February 1, 2015, so users can experiment and get comfortable with the new system. Read Full Article →
MSU to launch new Desire2Learn features for fall 2014
MSU IT Services is upgrading the Desire2Learn (D2L) Learning Management System to version 10.3 over the summer. In addition, to the upgrade several new integrations will be available.
This upgrade will offer many new features including:
- The ability to upload, publish and share media directly from the D2L environment using the Kaltura MediaSpace integration.
Access to university systems disrupted Saturday, January 4
Access to several core university systems – including ANGEL, Desire2Learn, and computer lab machines – was disrupted Saturday, January 4, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The source of the problem was traced to a device that was overloading IT Services’ datacenter network and disrupting traffic to the Shibboleth identity authorization system used by the affected services. MSU launches D2L sandbox for instructors to try new version
IT Services launched a “sandbox” of the newest version of Desire2Learn (D2L) at next.d2l.msu.edu for immediate play and experimentation before the full upgrade in December.
This sandbox is only for trying out and previewing, not for live teaching. All content remaining in the sandbox will be lost in the next upgrade. Read Full Article →
